The firm built new case management software in-house. The product team needed an interface that showed new automated searches alongside the manual checklists investigators used on every case.

A background check comes with a checklist that depends on its level. Some items are web searches. Many mean logging in to a subscription database, searching for the candidate, and saving the results. The back end was learning to run those searches through APIs. Investigators needed a way to review and approve what came back.

The problem

  • A large feature set, with many states for every item.
  • Not much room. Investigators would now do most of their work in a frame inside the page instead of opening a tab per search.

Schematic of the checklist layout. Not the production interface.

Outcome

I delivered a Figma prototype to stakeholders. After approval it went to the development team for integration.
